My parents started the business in 1959. They named the business Royvon, incorporating their own names, Roy and Yvonne. I have always lived at a Royvon facility- my first 35 years at our headquarters in Merthyr Tydfil and since 2006 at Royvon Surrey in Esher. My earliest memories of dogs were puppy German Shepherds as my parents were world renowned breeders and exhibitors of ‘Royvon German Shepherds’ and the puppy block was right in front of our house. We always had at least one litter of puppies and I loved to spend my time with them. As I grew up my love of German Shepherds and dogs in general became my only interest. At weekends I would either be showing our own dogs or helping at the kennels, absorbing all the learning and dog handling skills I could, like a sponge.
More information about those years can be found in our heritage (about us) pages as my whole life has been concentrated around Royvon and dogs:-
I’ve been fortunate to have been featured in some TV programmes for dog training which I really enjoyed, including ‘Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway’ and two series of ‘The Underdog Show’ – which is a reality TV program teaching celebrities how to train dogs.
The expansion of Royvon from a small boarding kennels on a hill in Merthyr Tydfil to becoming probably the UK’s leading dog training specialists is an achievement of which I am really proud. We now employee over 30 people – all dog lovers like myself. My focus these days are to ensure that each and every individual in our teams provides the very best of care to our guests and service to their owners.
For the future it’s my objective to make the experience as interactive as possible for owners by using photographs, video’s and other modern means of communication- for example based on the Internet. I appreciate these facilities myself when I have to leave my own dog Fleur when I am away. Dogs have always been my life and they always will be!
